Countertop Process

Step 1: Selection

Contact

Reach out to our sales staff to begin the process.  Our sales staff will educate on the different materials, edge options, sinks, our full process and any questions you may have.

Material Selection

Make an appointment with your salesperson to go over your design and material color selections at our showroom. Let them know your timeline.  Supply your salesperson with cabinet drawings, floor plans, dimensions or a sketch of your countertops so they can provide a quote and see how many slabs your project needs. If you are selecting natural stone, we will recommend you visit any of the Stone slab yards in Utah to pick out the perfect slabs for your project.  Slabs come in all different sizes.

Estimate

Your salesperson will have the estimate based on your material and color selections for you to review normally within 24-48 hours after your selections.  If they have any questions, they will reach out to you.

Approval

If the estimate and pricing looks good and you want to proceed, the salesperson will send you an E-sign contract to sign.  Pay the material deposit and let them know when your project will be ready for template.

Step 2: Template

Prep for Template

Cabinets need to be completely installed and secured in place including end panels, doors, fillers,  supports and brackets.  The cabinets need to be level and area plumb.  If your project is a remodel, the countertops need to be fully cleared off before our templater arrives.

Any changes after template need to be brought to our attention immediately.  Some changes after template might make it so we have to return to template again.  There will be an additional trip charge for this.  If anything isn't ready at time of template, this will cause there to be an additional trip charge as well.  If your countertops have already started being fabricated when you contact us about your change, there will be additional charges to remake the areas.

Full height back splash (FHBS) will not be completely flush to the bottom of the pre-hung upper cabinets.  There will be a gap of roughly 1/8" to 1/4" between the FHBS and the bottom of the cabinet that will produce a caulk gap.  Cabinets that sit on the countertops will need to be installed after we install the countertops.

Plumbing, Appliances & Farm Sinks

Owner or Contractor supplied sinks, faucets, soap dispensers, air switch, cooktops, ranges, BBQ's etc need to be onsite at time of template.  If any of these items aren't onsite, it could delay your project.

Farm sinks need to be set in place in the sink cabinet box before our templater arrives.  Farm sink needs to be flush with cabinets for standard edge.  Below are the Farm sink height for mitered edge:

  - 2" (5cm) Miter - 3/4 to 7/8" above top of cabinet.

  - 2.5" (6cm) Miter - 1 to 1 1/8" above top of cabinet.

  - 1 5/8" (4cm) Miter - 1/2 to 5/8" above top of cabinet.

Schedule Template

Once everything is finalized, contract signed and deposit paid, let your salesperson know when your project and cabinets will be fully ready for template.  We request at least three days notice of your project being ready before we can get you on the schedule.  The more notice you give us, the better it will be for us to meet your ready date.

Template

Our team will coordinate with you on what date and time works best for your schedule.  There is a 2 to 3 hour window (weather permitting) for your templaters arrival.  Please have a decision maker onsite during the entire template to answer any concerns or questions that the templater may have.  This decision maker needs to be at least 18 years or older.  If a decision maker is not onsite during the entire template, this may cause a delay in your project while questions or concerns are addressed.

Template professionals cannot coordinate seam placement with the Customer.  Seams are located at the discretion of the programming and fabrication department.

Slabsmith

For an additional fee you can request two types of slabsmith processes to show vein matching and seam locations.  The first type, we take high resolution pictures of your slab(s) and lay out your project onto them.  This will be in pdf format and will be emailed to you for review.  The second type, you pay extra to sit down with the programmer to review your layout on the slabs and have them move the pieces around to your desired snap-shot of the finished product.

Both of these elective processes will increase project turn around time and delay your installation date.  Please note that veining can still shift due to saw waste.

Seams, Overhangs & Supports/Brackets

For manufacturer and industry standards, below are the maximum overhangs:

  - 3cm natural stone up to 10" overhang

  - 2cm natural stone up to 6" overhang

  - 3cm engineered stone up to 12" overhang

  - 2cm engineered stone up to 12" overhang

Due to cantilever, unsupported portion of the overhangs can not be more than 1/3 the width of the entire countertop.

Any overhangs that are larger than listed above, will need additional support/brackets, supplied and installed by Others.  These need to be secured to the cabinets or pony wall before we arrive to template.

Maximum length before a seam will depend on the slab size, installation feasibility, installation safety, location access and material imperfection limitations.  Seam locations will be determined by industry standards, manufacturer requirements for warranty and best location for your cabinet.

Vein movement will not align exactly perfect or be reflected due to saw waste.  Vein shift will occur slightly at seams and miters.

Step 3: Installation

Prep before Install

All plumbing and electrical must be disconnected before we arrive for installation.  We are not licensed plumbers or electricians, so your contractor or plumber needs to disconnect and reconnect fixtures and appliances.

An authorized agent, contractor or homeowner over the age of 18 must be present at time of installation and stay the whole duration.

For remodels, please clear off all your countertops before the installers arrive if you contracted us to remove and dispose of the old countertops.  If you are doing your own demo or your contractor is doing the demo, old countertops need to be removed before we arrive to install.

Appliances in the area of installation will need to be moved to avoid damage.

After Install

After we install, please do not use your sink for at least 24 hours after installation to allow the glue to set. It is the responsibility of the homeowner or contractor to inspect the work thoroughly and bring any concerns immediately to the attention of the installers or salesperson.  It is our goal to deliver quality product and services.

Existing surfaces and cabinets may incur small damages during demolition or installation. It may be unavoidable due to size, age, or configuration of existing structure.  Client is responsible for touch up paint, patching on walls, cabinet repair and minor incidental damage after installation.  We try to use as much care as possible.  Cover any surface (floors or walls) with ram board that may be damaged during demolition.

Any damage or stains to countertops caused by other trades or owner after installation is the responsibility of the contractor, property owner, and the trade responsible for the damage.

Follow the Care and Maintenance guide of your material type going forward.  Make sure to seal your natural stone at least once a year.  Product may need multiple coats of sealer.

At an extra cost, we have partnered with HydroShield for extra protection and a 3 year warranty on sealed product.  HydroShield prevents stains, spotting, anti-bacterial protection, enhances natural beauty and is easy to clean.  Locally back true service warranty.  Great for Natural stone, shower glass, porcelain, ceramic tiles, grout lines, sinks and toilets.  Please feel free to contact them at 801-657-7660 or go to their website at www.HydroshieldSaltLake.com
